Nasal Surgery rhinoplasty melbourne
Determining ideal tip point involves careful facial analysis through which ideal nasal length and projection are calculated.

Over projection of the nasal tip occurs when nasal tip projection exceeds the ideal tip defining point. Nasal analysis defines this position as 0.67 X ideal nasal length.

When the existing tip projection exceeds the ideal, an over-projecting tip is diagnosed.

Whilst a 1mm may be tolerated in the surgical plan greater reductions require careful consideration. The consequence of lowering tip projection has a three dimensional effect.
  • The nasal length will alter
  • Width of the tip will increase
  • Nasal base will change
  • The skin of the nasal tip will behave like thicker skin

Importantly, reductions in projection exceeding 3-4 mm must be carefully contemplated. The other dimensional changes may be less desirable than the benefit of further decrease in projection.

One of the significant factors that is essential to consider when ever reducing the tip is the thickness of nasal skin.
Skin of the nose does not shrink but can depending on its thickness re distribute.
Thick skin does not re-drape over the tip structure as well as thin skin!
Thick skin shows less of the underlying structure and shape than thin skin
Nasal skin is thickest in the tip area.

As always Shape and a Balance of facial proportions is the priority. Careful facial and nasal analysis keeps you informed as to your options. The clinic’s experience confirms that computer imaging enhances communication and understanding of the issues in nasal change and rhinoplasty
