What is the aim of Aesthetic Surgery?
Aesthetic surgery is a highly skilled area of plastic surgery that aims to improve a patient's body image and selfesteem. The aesthetic surgeon's task is to mould and reshape tissue to restore or enhance appearance and function.

Who should perform Aesthetic Surgery?
Not all doctors performing cosmetic surgery are trained plastic surgeons. A fully trained plastic surgeon is skilled in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Plastic surgeons are also trained to understand not only the entire body they will be working with, but the psychological impact of surgery. They bring an extensive range of surgical techniques to individualise the management and treat 'the whole patient', not just the body part.

What should I look for in a Plastic Surgeon?
The most important thing to look for in a surgeon is competence. They should be fully trained and qualified in the type of surgery you seek.

They should also be approachable, willing to answer your questions and understanding of your reasons for seeking surgery. A friend's recommendation is always a good place to start. Check the qualifications of any surgeon with the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (telephone 02- 9331 3934).

“Please Remember - Eight years of additional training does count”.
