| Breast Reduction is not only a medical decision – it is a personal one. We understand that your experience is important and have a personalised plan for each patient.
Our aim is to meet your expectations and it is important that during your initial consultation, you point out exactly what you would like to see improved. This will help us to understand your expectations and determine how they can be realistically achieved.
Additionally as the surgery requires an anaesthetic we take note of your relevant medical history including previous operations, past and present medical conditions and current medications.
Following the consultation and examination we will explain Breast reduction as it relates to your specific needs. Importantly there is full disclosure of all costs !
In all cases we send a detailed report to you and to your local Doctor. These reports confirm our discussions and agreed procedure.
If you are over 35 and have not had a breast assessment in the preceding 2 years we request a mammogram be performed. This important test can either be done from the clinic or after liaising with your local doctor.
Your Pre operative Visit
At a second consultation we confirm the details of the procedure and your desired outcome and provide a care package
The customised care package includes:
- Vitamins to be taken preoperatively
- Pre surgical Bodywash
- Anti emmbolus stockings to be worn during the procedure and 3 days after the surgery
- 3 day course of night time sedation and anti inflammatory medication
- 5 day course of Antibiotics
- Detailed care instructions
- Wound care tape
- Mobile phone number of Surgeon (Dr Dixon Plastic Surgeon)
- Bra Instructions
It is appropriate to confirm at this time the general advice on your recovery.
It is usual that our patients return to work within two weeks. We encourage mild exercise within the first week. It is important not to do any strenuous exercise of the upper body and chest for two weeks as this increases the chances of bleeding and stretching of the scars.
After that, restricted activity for 4 weeks. Contact sports should be avoided for at least eight weeks.
Taping of the wounds for at least 6 weeks is followed by twice daily application of silicone bio-elastimer for 3 months. This regime is proven to achieve superior scar results. The staff at the clinic will assist with your personalised wound requirements.
Surgery results.
Breast reduction surgery will make your breasts smaller and firmer. Without the excessive weight of large breasts, you may find greater enjoyment in playing sports and engaging in other physical activity.
Breast reduction makes a dramatic change in your appearance and it may take a while to adjust and become comfortable with your new body image.
Importantly the level of patient satisfaction resulting after breast reduction is among the highest of any plastic surgery procedure.
The attention to detail in your care plan is important in achieving your expectations and our desired outcome.
Peter Dixon believes the change you desire must be consistent with the "world's best and safest practice."
Importantly The training and experience of your Qualified Plastic Surgeon in breast augmentation is vital in
achieving the "natural look" you should demand.
