Your Appointment
A change in one's appearance by cosmetic surgery is permanent. The plastic surgeons role initially is as a
consultant, confidante and patient advocate. The second or surgical stage of a persons transformation the surgeon
becomes a technician to optimise the result of the preconceived surgical plan.
The Initial Consultation
This appointment should be one of exploring your concerns your options and your expectations.
It's helpful if you've thought about your goals before you arrive. Cosmetic procedures are very different and each
needs time to be explained. We always have a great deal of information to get through.
Responsible surgeons will put in true perspective the advantages and the trade offs associated with any procedural
plan.
For some the decision-making process is a big one and can cause anxiety and nervousness. It's hard to hear and
understand important issues when you're in such a state, and that can sometimes lead to false expectations about
what we can achieve together. We want to avoid this, so we take our time.
Making the most of your appointment
Your time is very important to you, and that makes it important to us. We usually run to time, and we will
apologise if we keep you waiting. If you are delayed, please do phone to let us know.
There is someone in the office every weekday, from 9 am until 5 p.m. Sometimes we start a little earlier or finish a
little later than this, but you can always reach us during these times.
Referrals to Other Professionals
Sometimes, after confidential consultation, we might perceive that you have expectations that surgical procedures
simply cannot fix. If appropriate, we'll refer you to other surgeons with different specialist skills or counselors with
whom you can discuss wider issues.
