Calf Augmentation
The gym industry, and more specifically male body builders, frequently request greater definition of the calf (and
pectoral) muscle area. Although they may have what is considered an adequate muscle mass they lack the
appropriate sculptured appearance. This lack of definition occurs despite a rigorous exercise programme.
Plastic surgical has responded with calf implants. Today moderately soft, anatomically shaped calf implants can be
inserted via an incision in the skin crease at the back of the knee. It is usual to place two implants in each calf. Each of these implants is to produce a visible fullness that mimics
normal anatomy of he calf area.
Once the procedure is completed and the areas healed, a remarkably normal appearance can be achieved. The
technique is useful in reconstruction cases where the muscle has failed to develop or as a result of trauma atrophied.
