GORE-TEX (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene) implants are a safe and inexpensive alternative to autografts for use in rhinoplasty, according to the results of a 17-year retrospective review.
“It is our opinion that for both primary and secondary rhinoplasty with adequate endonasal and external soft tissue coverage, GORE-TEX should be strongly considered for major and minor corrections of the nasal wall and bridge in properly selected patients,” Dr. Krzysztof Conrad and colleagues, from the University of Toronto, state.

The chart review, which was conducted at a teaching hospital, community hospital, and private facial cosmetic surgery center, involved 521 patients who were followed for up to 17 years. A total of 685 GORE-TEX implants were placed, all by one surgeon.

The new findings appear in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery for July/August.

The implants, which were 1 to 10 mm thick, were placed in the nasal dorsum in 264 cases, lateral nasal wall in 252, supratip dorsum in 85, and premaxilla in 84. Excellent stability and tissue tolerance were noted.

Complications requiring implant removal developed in only 1.9% of patients and included infection, swelling, migration, and extrusion.

“The unlimited supply and natural feel of the GORE-TEX implant and excellent blending with the nasal contour, together with minimal operating time required, outweigh the disadvantage of occasional complications, all of which can be treated successfully as long as they are not neglected,” Dr. Conrad’s team concludes.

If you suffer hyperhidrosis you know the embarrassment and inconvenience that your condition can cause. (...)

If you suffer hyperhidrosis you know the embarrassment and inconvenience that your condition can cause.

Most people with an excess of sweating have tried many antiperspirants with little or NO affect.

Medications have a variable response; beta blockers, anti depressants and anticholinergic drugs may be useful but these each have numerous side affects. Surgical sympathectomy has not found popularity due to the invasive nature and a condition of rebound sweating.

Fortunately there is an answer to your problem of excess sweating.

Injections of a common anti wrinkle medication (BTX A) into the area of excess sweating classically the arm pit has a very high chance of control. Commonly in our experience dryness is obtained for periods up to 10-12 months.

In the clinic our approach is to recommend the BTX injections towards the end of winter or in spring, thus giving good relief throughout the summer months.
Whilst many clinics recommend the use of 100 units we find that doses of a lesser amount achieve desired results.
What is important is to NOT to waste any BTX A and inject only into the area of concern . Variations do exist from side to side and the area for management prior to injecting is identified by a stain test.

The total time for your assessment and treatment is 30 minutes. Costs can be from $500 to $1000 depending on severity. What we can assure you is that our aim is to treat the offending area in its entirety, no Less but also No more ensuring NO wastage, so that your cost is focused on achieving the appropriate result at a cost that is controlled.

More FAQ.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Small quantities of BTX-A are injected into the skin of the affected area. This blocks the action of the nerves that supply the eccrine glands and stops them producing sweat.

When (BTXA) is placed near the sweat glands the signals to sweat is interrupted. It can take a few days or more to work but the results are significant. treated once or maximally twice per year and don’t have to worry about constantly treating the area.

BTX A is a chemical produced by the Clostridium bacteria. BTX-A is a protein derivative of the toxin, which when injected into the skin, it blocks the sympathetic nerves that supply the eccrine glands thus preventing them from producing sweat.

HOW QUICKLY DOES IT WORK?
On average, you will notice a reduction in sweating 3 to 7 days following treatment.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Most people notice a slow return to sweating approximately 7-8 months following treatment but it is not uncommon to get 11-12months of relief . It can then be repeated.

WHAT IS THE DYE TEST?
The arm pits are painted with an iodine solution. After the solution has dried, fine starch powder is evenly dusted over the site. After several minutes, the presence of sweat causes the mixture to turn a dark blue-purple color, making the location of the sweating readily discernible. The dye test avoids wastage and excessive costs.

Out of courtesy to everyone we try to see all our patients on time.

We are providing a medical opinion on nasal change and particularly the procedure of rhinoplasty we do charge a professional fee.

In all rhinoplasty consultations we recommend computer imaging …so you can see the siginificance of the change.

In some instances we feel that it is not in a patient’s best interest to undergo rhinoplasty. We then respectfully decline to offer surgery. We realise this might be disappointing but ask you to understand and respect this medical opinion.

We greatly value our relationship with you. We consider it a privilege to ask patients with whom we have developed a strong doctor-patient relationship to recommend us to their friends and others who may benefit from our plastic and nasal surgery.

About the operation

The operation usually takes one hour

Your surgeon will make small cuts in the crease under your breast, around your nipple or towards your armpit.

The implants are inserted into position beneath the breast tissue or under the chest muscle.

The cuts are closed with stitches (which may be dissolvable) and your breasts are wrapped in a special supportive bra.

Fine silicone tubes may be left in each breast for up to 24 hours afterwards. These allow blood and fluids to drain into a bag.

From the article “An investigation of changes in body image following cosmetic surgery”

Prospective patients, as compared with controls, did not report increased dissatisfaction with their overall body image; however, they did report heightened dissatisfaction with the specific body feature for which they were pursuing surgery.

Results of the present study indicate that following cosmetic surgery women report significant improvements in body image dissatisfaction with the specific feature altered by surgery. Interestingly, these women did not report significant changes in their overall body image.

The effects of surgery on patients’ more global satisfaction with their appearance, however, were mixed. Patients did report a significant improvement in self-rated attractiveness following cosmetic surgery, as assessed by a single question in the patient information questionnaire.

Therefore, it appears that cosmetic surgery has positive effects on an individual’s thoughts and feelings about the specific feature altered by surgery, but that these effects may not generalise to the overall body image.

Thus, cosmetic surgery appears to reduce the occurrence of both negative emotional and behavioural body image experiences.

Rankin and colleagues 24 found that women reported significant improvements in depressive symptoms and quality of life 6 months post-operatively as compared with pre-operative levels. Coupling the results of the present study with those of Rankin and colleagues, there is no empirical evidence that indicates that cosmetic surgery leads to improvements in at least three areas of psychological functioning – depressive symptoms, quality of life, and body image.

At last there are implants available in Australia which can reduce this problem of capsular contraction. They are manufactured in Brazil by Silimed and they have recently received approval from the Australian Government’s regulatory body, the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Many years of use overseas has shown that covering silicone gel implants with a polyurethane foam surface reduces the risk of capsular contracture to between 1 and 2%.

Polyurethane breast implants were first used as long ago as 1969. Peter Dixon had exstensive experience with these implants: I used Replicon implants in the 80’s and confirm that the breasts were particularly soft.”

While breast augmentation may indeed be a viable option for some young women, it is crucial that a reputable surgeon takes extra time to meet with and counsel the teenager and her parents.

Importantly, Breasts do continue to develop well into the woman’s early twenties, making it nearly impossible to determine whether the teenager really needs breast augmentation.

Making the best of it

After consulting with a qualified plastic surgeon, you may have decided plastic surgery is right for your teen. How can you benefit the most from the experience?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons offers these tips for a rewarding outcome:

• The teenager must initiate the request. Parental support is important, but the teen’s own desire for surgical improvement must be something they truly want and have wanted consistently over a long period of time.

• The teenager must have realistic goals, appreciating the benefits and limitations of the surgery, and avoiding the fantasy that her whole life will magically change because of it.

• The teenager must demonstrate sufficient maturity. Breast augmentation surgery is painful and there are rules of recovery that must be strictly followed.

• Teens who are prone to riding the emotional roller coaster or who abuse drugs and alcohol or are being treated for clinical depression are poor candidates for surgery.

The most important part of choosing to go forward with cosmetic surgery is the surgeon you choose. He or she must be board-certified in plastic surgery and have hospital operating privileges despite the fact that most cosmetic procedures are done in the surgeon’s office.

It’s very important for teens and parents to discuss the procedure itself, the costs, the recovery period and whether insurance will cover any part of it. No matter how unhappy the teen may seem, plastic surgery is surgery, with all its inherent risks and complications, and is not something to be rushed into lightly.

The clinic offers breast augmentation as a specialty. We often consult with mature younger persons on their need for change. With breast surgery we request that any teenager attend for a consultation with a parent or guardian. If you would like to talk further contact us on 03 95268644

When consuidering weight loss a balanced dioet is preferable the clinic does not recommend the cambridge or other diet other than recommend a balanced approach.

However dierting and rapid weight loss may additionally deplete the body of collagen a supportuing structure of the skin. (PLD)
However:
Extract from cambridgediet.org
One common concern regarding weight loss, especially losing a large amount in a short amount of time as you can with Cambridge, is excess skin.

Most people have heard that if you lose the weight fast you will be left with a saggy tummy or “batwing”
arms. With the large number of people who have had gastric surgery in the past few years, plastic surgeons are being buried alive in patients who need body lifts or various parts tucked and tightened. The rapid weight loss is blamed.

This is false. It doesn’t matter in the least how fast or slow you lose your weight as far as redundant skin is concerned. The damage to your skin that causes this problem was done long before the weight loss occurred. It is due to the excess weight that your skin was required to accommodate.

Skin is elastic…to a point. It has an amazing ability to stretch and that can be seen in something as simple as a pregnant belly and as extreme as a 1,000 pound man.

Unfortunately, it can stretch, but not fully recover from such a demand; and like a balloon that has been inflated for a period of time, it can never return to its original size and shape. It wouldn’t matter if you deflated that balloon in 5 seconds or 5 days, it will still be stretched out.

The damage has already been done.

Gastric bypass patients have the added disadvantage of losing their weight through malnutrition and malabsorbtion.
Because of this, they are denying their body what is needed for normal repair and rebuilding so their post weight loss results can be very disturbing.

Large amounts of connective tissue as well as muscle and even some bone is lost with the effects of surgery and that shows in their final result. Cambridge users however, will enjoy all the benefits of complete balanced nutrition so their bodies are being supported in their efforts to restore and rebuild.

Good muscle tone, vibrant complexions and clear bright eyes are what they see in the mirror. Of course, there is still the possibility of redundant skin that may need correction if you choose, but not anywhere near to the extent as Weight Loss Surgery
(WLS) patients encounter.

So what is the truth about saggy skin? Lose the weight fast or slow, your excess skin condition is already established. You can improve your odds though by giving your body all it needs and you can find that in Cambridge.
